Crumbling Front Steps Rebuilt Right in Eau Claire

Old concrete steps don't just look bad - they become a safety hazard. The original staircase here had cracked slabs, crumbling edges, and gaps wide enough to catch a foot. It was the kind of thing you learn to step around out of habit, but nobody should have to do that at their own front door.

We pulled all of it out and started fresh. The goal was a 3-step staircase with a proper landing that matched the character of the home. This is a beautiful Tudor-style property in Eau Claire, and the entry needed to hold its own against that architecture. That meant being deliberate with the materials and the layout from the start.

We went with a paver system that layers two complementary tones - a warm brick-influenced field paver paired with clean, gray bullnose step caps. The result has real visual weight without feeling heavy. Each step is level, consistent, and built to handle freeze-thaw cycles without falling apart the way the old concrete did.

The landing does a lot of work here. It gives visitors a place to pause before reaching the door, and it makes the whole entry feel intentional rather than like an afterthought. Paired with the existing brick knee walls on either side, the new hardscaping ties everything together in a way the old slab never could.

This is the kind of hardscaping work we genuinely enjoy. It's not just about laying pavers - it's about reading the existing structure, understanding what the space needs, and building something that lasts. A front entry gets used every single day. It should feel solid every single time.
